The deadline to submit a proposal is Friday, November 1 at 5 pm ET

Proposals for the 2020 conference should address how presenters will connect to reproductive rights and justice; include concrete take-aways, new information, or action items participants will gain; and describe how the presenters became and are currently involved with the issues.  Proposals should acknowledge the intersection of movements and oppressions with reproductive justice.

CLPP fundraises so that we can bring speakers to the conference. If your proposal is accepted but you (or your organization) are not able to cover travel costs, we will cover travel, ground transportation and your lodging during the conference weekend. Meals and childcare are provided for the entire conference weekend for all speakers and conference participants, regardless of how they are paying for travel costs.

We accept three different types of proposals.  Please read the following carefully in order to determine which form to submit.  

Presentations (by one presenter) are typically 10-15 minutes in length.  We usually combine three or four presentations on related topics to build intersectional panels with adequate time for discussion.  Describe your topic, how it connects to reproductive justice, your background, and what you hope participants will gain from your presentation.  If accepted, we will work with you and connect you with other speakers working on related topics to create a panel. Interactive Workshops are generally 1 ½ hours long and are submitted by one or more people who have an intersectional, interactive presentation or training to share.  Workshops take many formats – from know-your-rights sessions, to media trainings, to arts or performance workshops, to organizing strategy sessions.  Check out last year’s workshops for an idea of the range of possibilities.  If you are submitting a proposal for an interactive workshop, please describe the goals and take-aways for the session and provide contact and biographical information for all of the presenters.  We favor sessions that are truly interactive and emphasize skill-building, generative sessions over panel discussions.  If you are interested in speaking on a panel, please submit your individual work as a “Presentation” (see above) and we will match you with other speakers to create a panel. 

Activist or Identity Caucuses are generally 1 ½ hours long and allow participants of a certain identity group, issue area, or region to gather, share experiences, and discuss and develop strategies. Activist or Identity Caucus hosts may share their organizing strategies, successes, and challenges and provide opportunities for conference participants to share their work, network with each other, build relationships and strategize.  You may choose to host a “closed” or "open" caucus.  In either case, the experiences of those directly affected or with direct experience are centered.  Examples of past caucuses include: Abortion Access in Massachusetts; Disability Justice and Reproductive Justice: Clarifying Our Values (closed session); Funding the Movement; Organizing in Red States; Southern Black Healing and Resistance (closed session); Trans-Inclusive Movement Building; and many more. 

All proposals should be engaging and dynamic, and should strive to be accessible to a diverse audience of both emerging leaders and long-time activists.  It is our goal to provide accountable, accessible sapces where we can learn and collaborate.  Before submitting your proposal, please take some time to read about how we work to create conference community

We strive to build a conference program that reflects the diversity of our communities and movements.  We may offer suggestions for alternate speakers if your proposal lacks diversity, and will work with you to confirm a final speaker lineup.  When crafting your proposal, please keep in mind that we value language that is inclusive of all people's identities and invite you to read more about this in CLPP's commitment to centering gender justice in reproductive justice movements.  

There are also places on the proposal form to indicate if you would like to participate in the conference in other ways – by framing and moderating a panel; facilitating a caucus space; sharing arts, performance, or media-making skills; or blogging about the conference.  In order to build conference programming, we will most likely ask you to participate in one or more other sessions if your proposal is accepted.  Please let us know about the community-building skills you have to share!  

CLPP fundraises so that we can bring speakers to the conference. If you or your organization are able to fully or partially cover your costs, we kindly ask that you do so in order to allow us to use these funds for other speakers.  Travel costs vary widely depending on your location, but on average, CLPP spends about $700 per speaker for travel, hotel, and registration.  You will have another opportunity to indicate if you or your organization can pay for your travel during the speaker registration process, if your proposal is accepted.  You or your organization’s ability to fund your travel has no impact on whether or not your proposal is accepted.  If you have any questions about paying for travel, please let us know!

In order to keep the conference accessible to students and community activists, CLPP strives to keep the costs of this event as low as possible.  Each speaker who presents at the conference will receive a small $100 honorarium for their participation.  In order to process the honorarium payment, we will need a completed W9 form, including US taxpayer ID number, for each individual or organization to be paid.
