The National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (NNIRR) works to defend and expand the rights of all immigrants and refugees, regardless of immigration status. Since its founding in 1986, the organization has drawn membership from diverse immigrant communities, and actively builds alliances with social and economic justice partners around the country. Internship description:
We have internships available in these areas: Immigration Policy
Monitoring and engagement on immigration policy, particularly with a focus on punitive immigration enforcement. Support for legislative advocacy, immigrant rights defense. Providing updates, fact sheets, educational tools. We are also interested in involving more students and more systematic campus outreach and education. Just Borders
NNIRR has a focus on border policy and practices, especially militarization and enforcement at the US-Mexico border, and advocacy of International Migrants Rights
international guidelines for human rights protections at borders. Interns will assist in research, including corporate research, news monitoring, social media, website and educational tools development.
1) Program support: The intern will be responsible for assisting with international communications and event-planning for our international forums and initiatives, including the Global Coalition on Migration. The intern should be comfortable working independently, communicating with colleagues and allies from varied cultures and languages, and be reasonably familiar with current migrants' rights issues.
2) Program support: Similar to the position above, this intern will support the Women in Migration Network (NNIRR is a member). The intern will assist with research, communications, updates to website and sharing through social media.
Internship skills needed:
Demonstrated commitment to social justice & immigrant rights; basic understanding of immigration enforcement programs; good writing skills. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus but not required.
