Funding Travel

Getting to the conference can be expensive! We are committed to bringing together student and community activists who are most affected by reproductive injustices, and who are on the frontlines of creating reproductive justice.

As part of this commitment, we have fundraising resources for you to use and some stipends available to lower your travel and hotel expenses.

Travel Stipend Awards

About the Travel Stipend Award program:

CLPP is committed to making travel to the conference more accessible for emerging and established student and community activists through our Travel Stipend Awards program. CLPP’s Travel Stipend Awards program provides funding that lowers the barriers for individuals and organizations working for reproductive justice to attend the conference, build capacity, learn from and network with other activists, and bring these skills and strategies back to their home communities. The awards include:

  • Subsidized registration fees
  • Travel to and from the conference
  • Lodging for two nights
  • A $500 stipend awarded to each group to support a project that awardees will embark on after the conference ends

We work to make the conference accessible to people and groups from across spectrums of gender, race, sexuality, disability, age, religion, nationality and country of origin, and from across geographic regions.

Awards are granted to people without access to personal funding or organizational support for conference expenses, who would otherwise not be able to attend the conference without funding assistance. Priority will also be given to first time participants. We prioritize funding people and groups who are directly affected by reproductive injustices, including but not limited to: formerly incarcerated people, people engaged in sex work and street economies, youth, teen families, people living with HIV/AIDS, people with disabilities, rural organizers, people of color, queer and trans people, people from criminalized communities, and/or poor and working class people.

Applications are available online. We have limited funding to provide registration and travel stipends. While we cannot offer awards to everyone who applies, we will do our best to bring as many people as possible. CLPP fundraises for the entire cost of the conference, including Travel Stipend Awards, and we strive to use our limited funds to bring as many people as possible. We encourage applications from groups or coalitions to increase your ability to bring the learning, networking, and strategizing back with you, but individuals may also apply.

Travel Stipend Award Applications:

You can apply individually or as a group, and you only need to send one application. To complete your application, we’ll need you to tell us:

  • How attending the conference will impact you, your organization, your relationship to the reproductive rights and justice movements, or support the work you do in your community.
  • How you plan to bring your conference experience back to your community and a proposal for how you will use the $500 stipend to begin or continue reproductive justice work in your community.
  • Estimated travel expenses.
  • Contact info and demographic info for you and/or members of your group.

Travel Stipend Award recipient responsibilities:

If you or your group are selected to receive a stipend, we ask that you commit to the following:

  • Accept or refuse the stipend offer by March 3, 2017
  • Book your travel through our travel agent by March 10, 2017
  • Attend the conference April 7-9, 2017! Get ready for three days of learning and networking with other activists!
  • Complete any reimbursement-related paperwork and stipend paperwork by April 28, 2017.
  • Agree to respond to follow up surveys from CLPP about your experience and its impact on your work immediately after the conference, 6 months out, and 1 year out. These evaluations help us make the program better for future recipients and track our effectiveness, so we’ll need to hear from you! If you don’t respond to our follow up, you won’t be eligible for future travel stipend awards.
