Summer Internship Program
Generations Ahead
Organization's Mission:
Generations Ahead (formerly the Gender, Justice and Human Genetics program of the Center for Genetics and Society) is one of the only organizations in the United States to work directly with social justice organizations and leaders to build their capacity to engage in public debates and policy-making regarding assisted reproductive and genetic technologies. We are working with a national network of social justice allies to develop a multi-movement coalition whose mission is to proactively develop and win policies that expand the human rights and health of women, communities of color, young women, people with disabilities, and LGBTQI communities, as they related to new human biotechnologies.
The Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice Project of Generations Ahead works closely with reproductive rights and justice organizations in California and nationally. The focus of the Project is to build organizations’ understanding of how these technologies impact women’s health and rights; provide space to hold challenging conversations related to privacy, choice, access, and regulation; and engage the reproductive rights and justice movements in building a proactive policy platform related to the new human biotechnologies.
Internship Description:
Interns may be involved in a variety of projects, such as:
- Researching background information on biotechnologies and synthesizing the research into short summaries (past topics have included egg donation for fertility and international human rights declarations on biotechnologies)
- Updating website materials

- Assisting in the writing and editing of reports to share with allies in other organizations
- Assisting in the planning of organizing campaigns
- Initiating or maintaining contact with other reproductive rights and justice organizations
