Class Action

Organization's Mission:

Class Action inspires action to end classism. We raise awareness, facilitate cross-class dialogue, support cross-class alliances, and work with others to promote economic justice. We run workshops for the public and for private organizations; publish literature – pamphlets and books; facilitate meetings; give speeches and presentations; and host an extensive website used by thousands in order to achieve the goals of our mission.

Internship Description:

Race/Class Intersections Program Internship:

Join in helping to develop Class Action’s newest program. Experience the nuts and bolts of a nonprofit while learning valuable skills that can be applied anywhere.

  • Help develop handouts, flipcharts and exercises that will promote engagement of poor and low-income people and people of color in workshops
  • Collect statistics relative to urban neighborhoods/populations
  • Collect quotes, stories and articles for Race/Class Intersections website development
  • Organize files for Race/Class Intersections Program
  • Help to market workshops focusing on Race/Class Intersections

Skills Needed:

Ability to:

  • Work independently
  • Follow instructions and ask for clarity when needed
  • Conduct web-based research, word processing and quickly learn a database program
  • Report accurately on all projects
  • Communicate needs
  • Attend to details
  • Write up research
  • Talk comfortably with allied organizations and media contacts

Knowledge and interest in class, classism and race/class intersections is essential. Knowledge with Mac platform and advanced computer, desk-top publishing, and database skills would be a real plus.

Language Requirements:

Basic English - great if you know Spanish!

Location:

104 Russell St. (Rt. 9) – Center of Hadley, on the common, next to Sylvan Learning Center. There is a bus stop right in front of our building.

Work Hours:

Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00pm

Dress Code:

Very casual
