Organization's Mission:
The Community Information and Resource (CAIR) Project believes that viable opportunities are integral to a woman’s right to self-determination. Unfortunately many women seeking abortion come upon barrier after barrier, including waiting periods, parental consent laws, and financial obstacles. In order to minimize these barriers, The CAIR Project provides financial assistance, information and referrals to women seeking abortion in the Pacific Northwest.
Internship Description:
CAIR Project is in a growth phase and would like to continue current work as well as expand. To do this, CAIR Project will be increasing their base of financial support. The internship will be split between direct services, fundraising, and outreach. The intern will work on the intake and referral line, expand the CAIR Project base, and coordinate outreach activities. Extensive training for the following projects will be provided:
Operating client-intake and referral system for abortion fund hotline (50%).
- Perform duties of hotline advocate: manage requests, make funding eligibility determinations, grant funds to women in need of abortion services.
- Learn and use web-based client intake database.
- Evaluate database for ease of use and practicality.
- Assess and update hotline manual as needed.
Evaluation Options for Increased Fundraising (25%)
- Research options for grants
- Research options and costs for increasing the mailing list
- Develop matierals for mailings to specific groups
- Conduct donor research
- Update donor database
- Develop and edit text for website
Research and Coordinate Outreach Effort (25%)
- Work with Board to determine summer outreach priorities
- Work with NARAL Pro-Choice Washington to staff outreach tables at local events
- With CAIR Board member, attend meetings of local Pro-choice groups and contribute to state strategy development
Attend National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) national conference.
Skills Needed:
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Experience working with low income populations and/or individuals in crisis desired but not required
- Web editing skills desired but not required
- A laptop with wireless capabilities would be useful if the intern chooses to work from home, but not necessary (computer/DSL will be available in office)
