Protest over Super Bowl Ad

Local newspaper, covers the national protest over the anti-abortion ad scheduled to run during the Super Bowl. The article highlights CLPP's participation in the protest through interview material with CLPP Associate Director/Programs, Mia Kim Sullivan.

"The ad takes this personal story about a deeply personal decision, his mother's decision to carry her pregnancy to term, and translates that into a mandate for all women across a range of circumstances: medical, financial and social, which is a very different thing to do," Sullivan said.

The New Population Control Craze: Retro, Wrong way to go

PopDev Director Betsy Hartmann writes in On the Issues Magazine:

It’s back to the bad old days of the population bomb. That was the title of an alarmist book by Stanford biologist Paul Ehrlich that appeared in 1968. He suggested that world catastrophe would ensue unless women in poor parts of the world were prevented from having too many children.

This fall’s junk mail carried an alarmist appeal from Population Connection, using its former name of Zero Population Growth (ZPG). According to ZPG, you can blame just about everything on population growth, from traffic congestion, overcrowded schools and childhood asthma to poverty, famine and global warming.

Summer Leadership Institute 2009 - Applications Now Available

The fifth annual NLNI Summer Leadership Institute will be held from Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the Trinity Conference Center in northwestern Connecticut. For participants without professional development or travel funds through their own organizations, CLPP will pay for travel and lodging.

Spring 2009 NLNI Meeting

On the eve of our 23rd annual conference, CLPP convened 50 members of its New Leadership Networking Initiative (NLNI) to learn about and discuss racism, power and privilege within our movements; new advocacy opportunities to develop the field of climate justice; and new ways to evaluate movement-building work.

International Leadership Development Meeting

Last spring, CLPP invited six organizations to send staff to its annual national reproductive rights conference to speak about their organizations’ work, interact with other US activists working on reproductive rights and related social justice issues, and to participate in a day-long meeting about leadership development.

2008 Summer Leadership Institute

This year, over 30 reproductive rights and social justice activists gathered in the beautiful coastal region of Essex, MA at the Essex Conference and Retreat Center for four days of networking, learning, and laughing.

Spring 2008 NLNI Meeting

Date: April 4th 2008

On April 4, 2008, 60 reproductive rights and social justice advocates gathered for the spring meeting of the New Leadership Networking Initiative. The meeting was held on the eve of CLPP’s annual conference at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts.

The agenda featured a panel discussion on issues of leadership, power, diversity and inclusiveness. Participants then broke into small groups to discuss their own experiences and to strategize together on how to address issues of racism, hierarchy and exclusion in the workplace. Afternoon workshops included:

  • Engaging Religious and Spiritual Communities in Your Advocacy Work
  • What Do We Really Think About Late Abortions?
  • Project/Organizational Directors’ Caucus

Advancing Abortion Rights in a Reproductive Justice Framework

Date: December 10th 2007

Last December, 30 international, national and grassroots activists, religious leaders, academics, and journalists gathered for a day-long meeting at the Ford Foundation in New York to explore how a reproductive justice framework can enhance our understanding of and ability to advance abortion rights.
