Creating Conference Community

In an effort to make the Hampshire College campus as welcoming as possible, we have included the following information for all participants to use in creating an accessible conference community. All participants will receive a copy upon conference check-in. Click here to view the 2013 booklet as a .pdf.

All of us—conference organizers, speakers, and participants—bring our varied identities to the conference. CLPP tries to provide the safe and accessible spaces necessary for everyone to be able to participate in conference events. We ask that all participants help us create these accountable spaces.

We invite you to be part of a culture of respect that acknowledges and honors the differences we bring in terms of our identities and our politics, without marginalizing or tokenizing each other. We can all do this by speaking from our own experiences and being respectful of differences.

In this spirit, we ask that you be aware of language that you use, especially when certain words, like “gay” or “lame”, have been used to oppress others historically.
