The fifth annual NLNI Summer Leadership Institute will be held from Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the Trinity Conference Center in northwestern Connecticut. For participants without professional development or travel funds through their own organizations, CLPP will pay for travel and lodging.
NLNI’s mission is to support, connect and train new and emerging leaders who are building a diverse reproductive justice movement. As with other CLPP projects, NLNI takes a broad understanding of reproductive justice that emphasizes the intersections of reproductive rights and other aspects of social justice. The Summer Leadership Institute will complement regular NLNI meetings by providing the opportunity for more in‐depth skills training, networking, learning, planning, and strategic thinking.
Previous sessions have included:
Population Control & Eugenics ∙ A History of the Movement ∙ Fundraising & Development ∙ Gender and Intersex Awareness ∙ Class & the Economy ∙ Organizational Growth & Change ∙ Legal Threats to Reproductive Justice ∙ Global Spotlight: Reproductive Rights in Mexico
For more information about previous year's sessions, visit our NLNI projects page:

The application deadline has been extended to Wednesday, May 13, 2009, with selections to be made by May 18. The Institute is open to individuals who have not attended a Summer Leadership Institute before.
Because we understand leadership development in terms of creating a broader movement for reproductive and social justice, we ask participants to commit to taking their training and learning back home in some way appropriate to their organization and/or their activism, such as conducting a workshop for peers at their home organization; doing a community training; or speaking in a public forum or other training/educational event. We also require organizational support for this effort by asking applicants and their supervisors to co‐sign a commitment agreement which is included in the application. As part of this agreement, we are requesting all sponsoring organizations to provide paid leave for staff to attend the Institute, which will be held during the work week, so that they do not have to use vacation time.
Submit a complete copy of your application (below) including a cover sheet, letter of recommendation and signed commitment agreement by Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Please do not staple the pages together.
