From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building the Movement for Reproductive Freedom - April 9-11, 2010
The Civil Liberties and Public Policy (CLPP) and Population and Development (Pop.Dev) programs are accepting individual presentation topics, strategic action session and full workshop applications for our annual national, activist conference, From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building the Movement for Reproductive Freedom.
Proposals are due: September 28, 2009.
CLPP and Pop.Dev’s annual April conference for students and community activists connects young people to reproductive rights and social justice organizations and campaigns locally, nationally, and internationally, and provides them with information, analysis, and “how-to” organizing to bring back to their own campuses and communities. The conference presents a broad, intersectional analysis of the issues and links reproductive rights to civil liberties, LGBTQ rights, environmental justice, peace and security, immigrant rights, youth liberation, disability rights, access to health care and child care, and freedom from violence and abuse. Individual presentation topics are consolidated into panels that are 1 hour 30 minutes or 2 hours in length. In the past, workshops have been generally composed of 3-4 speakers who speak for 8-10 minutes each, followed by a question and answer period facilitated by a workshop moderator. Please note, we generally do not support Power Point presentations. Audio/visual and interactive components are encouraged. We will also consider interactive full workshop proposals. Please note, however, workshops slots are limited.
New for 2010!
Conference participants come from a range of backgrounds—some will be hearing about these issues for the first time, others will be long-time activists or academics. In response to requests for basic information on a variety of topics, we are hosting a number of introductory 101-type workshops. Please indicate on your proposal if you are also interested in facilitating an introductory workshop, and include the topic and a brief description of the proposed content.
