Biography: V. is a rising senior at Smith College, majoring in the Study of Women and gender. A self-identified "Brazilian redneck," she is a transbutch excited to work in the Big Apple. A recent transfer from Cottey, a college in rural southwest Missouri, she has never experienced big city life and is anxious to become a part of the activist community in NYC and to engage with the multitude of individuals in the city. Her passions lie with social justice and radical politics, and her focus is on LGBTQQIA individuals in under-privileged situations. She loves people and their stories, and could spend days just listening to anecdotes and rants. Vivian ensures she always has time to read, have peaceful alone time, cook, and meditate, but also to learn from others and go on adventures. Number one on her bucket list is to learn how to ride a motorcycle and take it across South America. Vivian is extremely excited about getting to work with individuals who have struggled and fought the fight, learning from their experiences, and to contribute all she can. She desires to learn, to act, and to learn how to act. Because she has never had the opportunity to work with an organized group towards social justice for LGBTQQIA individuals, working with Queers for Economic Justice is a dream come true.
